Bio

I am a former Biotech Professional in my 4th year at SJSU studying Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I have an associates degree in biomanufacturing from Laney College and 5 years of biotech industry experience in addition to 2 years of research experience here at SJSU. I have spearheaded the organic synthesis group at our lab, led collaborations between the Rios lab and other undergraduate research labs, and was instrumental in the lab design and website design process. I have general leveraged my biotech industry experience to provide meaningful equipment, Inventory, EH&S and logistics insight and assistance to the Astrobiology Lab at SJSU.

My long term academic aspirations are to attend graduate study in regenerative medicine and stem cell biology, with a focus on longevity, epigenetic rejuvenation and aging in humans. I am currently looking for a Molecular Biology/Biochemistry research lab with a focus on nucleic acid biochemistry to do further undergraduate research work with, in order to bridge the gap to graduate school research in this field.

I was a founding member of the SJSU Astrobiology Group and during my 2 years here I have learned a great deal about the chemical origins of biology, which I am certain will provide me with meaningful tools and insights into future research aspirations. I joined this lab to better understand the origins of the chemistry of life to give me a broader perspective on how it might be preserved or restored in aging organisms. Additionally Dr. Rios is an outstanding academic and career mentor and I wanted to learn from a highly talented professional research scientist how to effectively navigate my research career.
